Katherine (Kay) McLaughlin died peacefully at home on February 8 surrounded by love. Kay was born in Romania in 1926 to Andrew and Frances Huber. She was an only child and moved to Canada when she was 11 years old. She lived in Springside Saskatchewan where her father owned the general store. The family moved to a farm east of Melville where Kay completed high school. She worked at the Misericordia Hospital in Winnipeg before returning to Melville to marry the love of her life, John (Scotty) McLaughlin, who had recently emigrated from Scotland. They raised five children in Melville where John worked on the railroad and Kay was an active member in the community. They moved to Chilliwack when John retired and used that as a home base to travel off to visit family and friends. Kay loved the company of others and nurtured friendships that have lasted a lifetime. She always stayed in touch and owned one of the thickest, most impressive address books to ensure she never lost track of people she loved and cared deeply for.
She was a wonderful mother and a bright light in our lives. The "clan" has been diminished by her death, but her love will live on in each one of us. Kay will be deeply missed, and forever loved, by her children Bill (Marlette) McLaughlin, Rosalie (Norm) Unger, Jim (Dwili) McLaughlin, Marie (Norm) Soulsby and Bob (Sandra) McLaughlin, her grandchildren, her great grandchildren, her great great grandchild, her extended family and dear close friends near and far. She lived an incredibly rich, full life and shared her love freely with everyone she came into contact with.
In memory of Kay's generous spirit, please consider making a donation to your favourite charity. The family would like to express our thanks to all the staff at Crystal Ridge Manor for their loving care and our sincere gratitude to all the residents who were an important part of mom’s life. A funeral mass will be held at St. Mary's Roman Catholic church in Chilliwack on Wednesday, June 29, 2022 at 11:00 AM.
