A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and servant-hearted leader, Louis will be remembered for his kindness, integrity, and the steady, faithful way he cared for the people around him.
Louis was a loving husband to Marlene, with whom he shared many meaningful years filled with faith, family, and companionship.
He graduated from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis and dedicated his life to ministry and service. His pastoral journey began at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cable, Wisconsin (1971–1977). He continued his ministry at Epiphany Lutheran Church (1977–2001) before serving at Christ Risen Lutheran Church in Ottawa from 2001 until his retirement in 2016.
In addition to his parish ministry, Louis served in wider church leadership, including as Vice President of the Central District, as a member of St. Catharine’s Seminary Board, and as on-call clergy in Thunder Bay. He was known for his compassion, humility, and unwavering commitment to sharing God’s love.
Louis is survived by his wife Marlene; his children Deanna (Robert) and their daughters Freja and Sigrid; Erik (Tobey) and their sons Leo and Wyatt.
He is also survived by his stepchildren Christian (Trisha) and his daughter Ember; Michelle (Dan) and her children Joe and Julia; and Andre (Alex) and his children Brady and Robin.
He is predeceased by his siblings Paul, Phyllis, Beverley, and Margie.
Louis often reflected on the reassurance and joy found in Scripture, especially Psalm 118:24:
“This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.”
