We, as a family, regret to announce the passing of our beloved Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother on January 31, 2016 at the age of 81.
Mary was born on October 1, 1934 in Renkum, Holland, to parents Benardus and Elisabeth Bohmer. She was to be the middle child of 13 children with 4 brothers and 8 sisters. Having survived a childhood in Holland during the Second World War, she immigrated to Quebec with her family as a teenager. However, it was too cold there for her Dad and they headed out west where she eventually met the love of her life, James Jonk. They were married on December 29, 1956. Jim's adventurous spirit took them to live in many different places including California, Alberta, northern British Columbia, Queensborough and even back to Holland once. In 1974, they settled in Chilliwack.
Mary enjoyed family time, bowling, gardening, baking, and playing cards. She leaves behind her devoted husband of 59 years, Jim. Mary was a cherished mother to Nick (Marian) Jonk, Liz Hatt, Jim (Helen) Jonk, and Annette Hurley. Her legacy continued with her grandchildren: Alicia Hatt, Jordan Jonk, Nicola Hatt, Justin (Heidi) Jonk, Nicolas (Kassi) Jonk, Michelle Hatt, Kevin (Stephanie) Jonk, Laurissa (Ken) Alexander, Kaitlyn Jonk, Lindsay Jonk, Devan Jonk, Lauren Hurley, and Connor Hurley. It continued on with pride and love with her great-grandchildren; Maya Jonk, Scott Jonk, and Carter Jonk. She was predeceased by her parents; her sisters, Riek, Jo, and Stine, and her brothers, Chris and Ben.In lieu of flowers, donations to the Langley Lodge and Care Foundation would be appreciated. 5451 204th Street Langley, BC V3A 5M9 Direct line: 604-532-4207 or on line donations can be made at http://langleylodge.org/fundraising-charity-events/ or https://www.canadahelps.org/dn/9243.
