Oscar Emanuel Ottoson

Oscar was taken into our lord's arms early in the morning after a lengthy, courageous fight with COPD and lung cancer. Oscar was predeceased by his beautiful wife Ruth in 2003. Their daughter Esther in 2002. Surviving are his 3 children, Wayne (Elaine), Joyce (Harold), Ernest (Pauline). Many Grandchildren, Great grandchildren spanning 5 generations. Many nephews, nieces and cousins in Canada, USA, Norway and Australia. He will also be greatly missed by a very close friend (of two and one-half years) Alice, and many good friends.

Oscar was a farm boy when he met Ruth. They married in 1938. They found that they could not make money farming so he headed for the mines in Flin Flon, Manitoba. There he made a home for his family. He and mom raised their four children there and then years later, (1956) moved to Edmonton. There again, dad was enticed by the mine work. He and mom moved to Uranium City, Sask. where they lived until their retirement. They moved to Chilliwack, BC, in 1980. Dad and Mom both loved growing trees and traveling until Mom's passing in 2003.

Oscar was a very talented man, loving his family first and music second. He was an accomplished accordionist, piano player, guitar picker. Actually he could play anything but a wind instrument. We can see him up in heaven with mom, playing the piano or his accordian and mom correcting him when he hits the wrong notes. Oscar played for many years in the bands on weekends to bring in extras for his family. Times were lean years ago and he did his utmost to see that we kids did get music lessons and schooling that he could not complete. Years ago the boys had to work on the farm but in his spare time which was little he would practice and practice the keyboard until he was perfect. It was a real pleasure to sit and listen to his music. He also loved fishing and once in a while camping. But he most loved the kids coming home. He and mom would spend two or three days making lefsa so they could spoil the kids with the specialty they were famous for. Mom would bake up a storm, and the way to dad's heart was through his tummy. Dad made all our Lefsa Rolling pins on his wood lathe.

Our deepest Thank you wishes go out to Dr. David Fitzpatrick and his wonderful Office manager, Fran, who never kept us waiting when dad needed care. A special thanks to Dr. Paul Graham, Dr. Bakker and all the nursing staff and care aides on 4S at Chilliwack General Hospital for thier wonderful compassionate care for our father. Also special Thank you wishes to the Waverly Srs Village Residential Care for all who cared for dad while he was a resident with them. In lieu of flowers, a donation to your favourite charity would be appreciated.

By special request from our father, ther will be no service at this time. A graveside service will be held for both mom and dad at their family plot on their 74th wedding anniversary on June 20, 2012 at Naicum, Saskatchewan.

Dad, we know that you are with mom, we will miss your great stories.You were the greatest dad ever. We already miss your phone calls that were a part of our everyday schedule.
