

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Patrick Joseph Keane, of Chilliwack BC, on October 31, 2013 .
He was predeceased by his parents, Mary and Patrick, and brother, David. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary, sons Lee (Trish) and Van (Bev).
Patrick was born in Manchester, England and had a varied career: bus driver, Royal Air Force(RAF) pilot, business management trainee, school teacher, adult education tutor, and Dalhousie University Professor.
He earned a BA(Hons) in History and Political Science (University of Manchester), Certificate of Education and MA(Bristol University), PHD (University of Bath)
Patrick worked as an adult educator in Wiltshire and Cornwall, U.K..
In 1970 he emigrated to Canada with his wife, two sons and their German Shepherd (Flack) on the penultimate voyage of the Empress of Canada. Patrick was a Professor of Adult Education at Dalhousie University until his retirement in 1992. He published numerous articles on adult-education related themes, co-authored a book, (Adult Education in the American Experience: From the Colonial Period to the Present). Patrick was a visiting professor at the University of Illinois (DeKalb) in 1981. He moved to Victoria, BC in 1999 and later to Chilliwack where he and Mary became avid members of the YMCA aerobics class. His interests included classic British buses,Roman history, Monty Python and similar comedies.
He will be dearly missed by his family, and his friends at the YMCA.
The Keane family wishes to thank nurses at Chilliwack General and Abbotsford Regional Hospital, Dr. Deon Smit, Dr. Ron Bull (Chilliwack) and Dr. Robert Winston (Abbotsford), and the Cascade Hospice for their care and thoughtfulness. The Keanes also wish to thank the volunteer drivers of the B.C. Cancer Society(Chilliwack)
A Funeral Service will be held on November 12, 2013 at 10:00 at Saint Mary’s Church, 8909 Mary St, Chilliwack, BC V2P 4J4
Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Promontory Road, Chilliwack
A Reception will take place at the St. Mary’s Church Hall after the interment.
In lieu of flowers, donations are welcome to the Chilliwack Hospice Society or B.C. Cancer Society.
