Dad was born April 30, 1930, the youngest of twelve, in Aberdeen SK to John J. & Helena Thiessen. He lived and worked on the family farm. He married Christine Buhler in 1951 and welcomed 4 daughters; Ricky, Vivian, Elaine & Teresa. In 1964 Dad moved his young family to Chilliwack where he made his home until his passing.
Dad enjoyed nothing more than a “good visit” and “discussions” on political topics. His favorite words were “I beg to differ” and then would expound at length as to why. Dad bestowed on his children a love of reading, corny sense of humor and a sense of fairness and generosity.
He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by Ricky (Stuart), Vivian, Elaine Langmuir and Teresa (Alan) Doyle; sister-in-law Anne Thiessen; 7 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; a large and loving ‘brood’ of nieces and nephews and special friend Shirley Ruffell.
Dad is predeceased by his wife Christine in 1991, his father John J. Thiessen and mother Helena Schellenberg and siblings John (Marie), Helen (Jack) Schroeder, Julius (Helen), Catherine (Bill) Schroeder, Bernhard (Anna), Elizabeth (John) Peters, Mary (Corny) Fehr, Annie (Bill) Peters, Agnes (Ed) Dreidiger, Ike, Lynn (Harry) & (Don) and sons-in-law Allan Langmuir, Graeme Penty and Orville Smith.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, December 13, 2014 at Woodlawn Mt. Cheam Funeral Home, 45865 Hocking Ave. Chilliwack; Rev. A Haggarty officiating.
The family would like to thank the incredible nurses in ICU and the great home support workers who helped our Dad in his time of need. Memorial donations may be made in William A. Thiessen’s name to Ruth & Naomi’s Mission, Chilliwack at www.ruthandnaomis.ca/donations
