Annelise Ortiz-Jaap

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of Annelise Ortiz Jaap, age 63, of China Grove, North Carolina on February 1, 2026. She was born on February 24, 1962 in San German, Puerto Rico, to Hamlin and Laura Ortiz.

A warm and loving caretaker, Annelise had a green thumb, and loved to cook and bake sweet treats for those she loved. Most who knew her enjoyed her famous cookies every Christmas. She was active in the lives of her children and grandchildren and she loved her two beagles, Jackson and Jill, who provided the best company until her last moments. She was also a volunteer in the community. She was happiest when she knew that her loved ones were healthy and thriving.

Annelise is survived by her beloved daughters, Amanda Berns (Christopher Berns) and Hillary Jaap (Jorge Martinez Blat); grandchildren, Sophia and Topher Berns; her father-in-law, John Jaap; siblings, Gretna and Steve Rice, Hamlin and Pam Ortiz-Marty, Amy and Paxton Butler, David and Stephanie Jaap, Jason Jaap, Audra Lowman; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends and family for a service at Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home on Monday, February 9th, 2026 from 5 to 7 pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Meals on Wheels of Rowan County in her memory.
