

Mr. Dowd Freeman WIlhoit, 81 of China Grove passed away on Friday, February 2, 2018 at Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House. Born on February 26, 1936 in Rowan County , he was the son of the late Grady Thomas and Irene Hinson Wilhoit. Educated in the Rowan County Schools he was a past member of the China Grove Jaycees. Mr Wilhoit worked for China Grove Cotton Mills and Fiber Industries, and operated the Texaco Station in China Grove. He retired from A.O. Smith, after many years of service. Dowd enjoyed NASCAR racing, camping, woodworking, vegetable gardening, being with his dogs and hanging out at C&D Salvage. In addition to his parents, he was preceded by his brothers, Robert, Charlie, George and Tommy Wilhoit and sisters Louise Wilhoit and Maxine Cranford. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 60 years, Delores Rogers Wilhoit, daughters, Terry W. “Punk” Taylor and Sherry “Sweet Pea” Kidd. Also surviving him are his brother Bill Wilhoit, and sisters, Frances Foster of Belton, S.C. Jean Eudy of Albemarle, Lucille Starnes of Albemarle and Bernice Davis (Ted) of Albemarle. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews as well as his pets Rascal, Penny, Diesel and Molly.
Visitation will be on Tuesday from 1:00 til 3:00 at Linn Honeycutt Funeral Home in China Grove with memorial service at 3:00 also at the funeral home.
