

Mrs. Edith Sloop Deal wife of the late Glenn W. Deal Jr. of 1009 S. Franklin St., China Grove died on July 15, 2014. Edith was the daughter of the late Carl E. Sloop Sr. and Mary Mae Wiley Sloop. She graduated from China Grove High School and attended Lenoir Rhyne College. In early years, she owned and directed a school of dance and later worked for the family owned business. She was a life-long member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, China Grove, where she had served as a Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher and Girl Scout Assistant Leader. In previous years, she held membership and chaired numerous committees in the China Grove Woman's Club and local chapter of the Woodmen of the World.
Edith was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who valuled her time with family and friends. She enjoyed coooking, playing bridge with the Thursday Afternoon Bridge Club, painting in oils, crocheting original pieces and appreciating all genres of music.
She is survived by her daughter Dr. Glenda Deal Poole (Jerry); grandson, Greg Poole; great grandsons Derek Poole and James Poole, brother Carl E. Sloop, Jr., sister Oline Sloop Phillips and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by sisters, Evelyn S. Teeter and Kathrine S. Valenski.
The family especially thanks Edith's personal caregivers, Dianne Fowler and Sharon Mishak for their loving companionship and the staff of Caremoor Cottage Assisted Living Facility.
A memorial celebrating Edith's life will be held on Sunday July 20, 2014 at 3:00 pm. at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in China Grove with Pastors Keith Copeland and Tony Bradshaw. Following the service, the family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall. A private interment will precede the service.
