

Born in Rowan County on September 29, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Henry Lewis Stirewalt and Hettie Duree Morgan Stirewalt.
In addition to her parents, Evyleen was also preceded in death by one great-grandson, Malachi XL Black.
Evyleen was a graduate of China Grove High School – Class of 1953. For a number of years, she worked at Woolworth, and later worked for Fieldcrest and Cannon Mills as a spinner.
Some of her favorite hobbies included crocheting, needlepoint, working puzzles of all kinds, and reading. She was a great cook and will be remembered for her various cakes and pies, especially her 30-day Friendship cake.
Evyleen loved her family and will be greatly missed by all that knew her.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Donnie Ray Smith, Sr.; her children: Donnie Ray Smith, Jr. (Elizabeth) of China Grove, Gary Smith of Spencer, Michelle Smith of Salisbury and Michael Smith of Spencer and her brother, Gerry Lewis Stirewalt of Derwood, MD.
Evyleen is further survived by her seven grandchildren: Jonathan Smith (Sonya), Haley Smith, Johnna Black, Lawrence “Bubba” Black, Absalom Patterson, Vernon Leroy Newton, III and Cody Jerome Smith; ten great-grandchildren, Danny Smith, Laura Smith, Mikaela Black, Layla Black Robinson, Layna Black, Landon Black, Denyilah Black, Deylon Black, DeVynnah Black and Zailin Harte; one nephew, Ian Stirewalt of Casper, WY and numerous extended family and friends.
The family will receive friends at Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, Thursday evening, January 23, 2025 from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM.
The funeral service will be in the Northcrest Chapel of the funeral home, Friday, January 24, 2025 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Dr. Joyce Miles officiating. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park.
