

Mr. George Lee Pless, a proud native son of Landis, passed away on January 23, 2021 at Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House in Salisbury. He is survived by his wife, Doris Vickery Pless, whom he always called his “little woman.” They were blessed to have shared 72 wonderful years together. Also surviving him are their children: Debbie P. McPherson of Granite Quarry, Diane P. Corriher (Tom) Mt. Ulla, and Teresa L. Pless of Salisbury. He leaves behind three grandchildren: Ian McPherson (Sara) of High Point, Dodson McPherson (Kaity) of Marshville, and Katie Corriher of Mt Ulla; four great-grandchildren; Aidan, Rachel, Ret and Rhys McPherson and one sister, Frances P. Alderman of Salisbury.
Mr. Pless was born May 11, 1927 in Rowan County, the son of the late Doc Welker Pless and Lela Ramseur Pless. He graduated from Landis High School in 1947 and enlisted, but served no active duty, in the US Naval Reserve from 1947-1954. He continued his education at Evans Business College and the American Institute of Banking. He was formally employed by Cannon Mills, Central Motor Lines in the accounting department, Merchants and Farmers Bank, and later retired in 1989 from Dominion Yarn in Landis as Director of Purchasing. Mr. Pless also served on the Board of Directors at Security Bank. He was a member of the Landis Lions Club, twice named Lion of the Year, serving as President for two years and Secretary for six years. He served three terms on the Landis Board of Alderman, and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church Landis, serving on its council as treasurer and on the long-term planning committee.
Mr. Pless enjoyed spending time with his wife, his friends and family, taking many trips to Tweetsie Railroad with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and traveling to the lake, beach and mountains. He also enjoyed researching his family ancestry, playing golf and fishing at the beach.
A graveside service is scheduled for Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at 2:00pm at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis with the Rev. Dr. Jarrod Lanning officiating. There will be recognition of Mr. Pless included in the regular 10:30am worship service at Trinity Lutheran Church, Landis at a later date. Memorials may be sent to Trinity Lutheran Church in Landis or the Glenn Kiser Hospice House, Salisbury.
