He was born on February 6, 1943 in Rowan County. He was the son of the late Alfred Reid (Red) and Bernice Allman Benfield. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife of 39 years, Sandra Chapman Benfield.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 19 years, Mary Bollinger Benfield of Salisbury, NC and his three daughters - Traci Graham (Eddie) of Mooresville, NC, Jill Hubbard (Joe) of Salisbury, NC, and Allison Kaylor (Rob) of Monroe, NC. He was well-loved by his grandchildren - Cal, Ty, and Brooks Hubbard and Kade, Zeb, Bex, Willa, Haddon, and Judson Kaylor. His siblings are Burton Benfield, Vickie Abernethy, and Mike Benfield all of Salisbury, NC.
Reid was a faithful member of Landis Baptist Church where he enjoyed singing in the choir and also served as the church treasurer for 50 years. He was a longtime employee of Salisbury Machinery Company which he retired from in 2010.
Reid set a wonderful example as a loving and thoughtful father, faithful husband, and friend of all who knew him. He modeled generosity and love to everyone in his life, primarily through the love languages of thoughtful gifts and acts of service. He impacted countless lives and his legacy as a man of God will continue to live on through the lives of his family and friends.

The family will receive friends Monday, May 16, 2022 at Landis Baptist Church from 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM.
The funeral service will begin at 2:00 PM in the church sanctuary with Rev. Mike Austin, Dr. Gary Chapman and Rev. Eddie Graham officiating. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park.
