

Born in Rowan County on January 30, 1930, one of 17 siblings, he was a son of the late Green Thomas Burris and Etta Mae Mabe Burris.
During his lifetime, he worked for Corriher Mill, Trexler's Heating & Air, Quality Oil Company, and, prior to his retirement, he worked in the shop at Linn Mill.
Herbert was a member of Genesis Baptist Church where he was very active until his health began to decline. His carpentry and electrical skills were very beneficial as Genesis built their new sanctuary. In prior years, he helped with the remodeling and building of several other churches. He enjoyed music and played several instruments including guitar, banjo, and piano.
After retirement, he and wife Barbara enjoyed spending much of their time at their beach house with family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased in death by son Herbert Burris, Jr., April 16, 2010, son-in-law Terry Sawyer, December 9, 2021, and 15 brothers and sisters.
Those left to cherish his memories are his wife of 72 years, Barbara Belk Burris, daughters Elizabeth Lynn Sawyer of Salisbury and Pam Strother (Tom), of China Grove, daughter-in-law, Jan Burris, of China Grove, grandsons Tommy Strother (Rachael) and Jeremy Sawyer, both of Salisbury, great grandchildren Taylor Strother and Jayden Strother, both of Faith, Alden Brumbaugh of Salisbury, and brother Larry Burris (Marlene) of Landis, the youngest of the 17 siblings.
The family wishes to convey their heartfelt thanks to the 'Angels' at Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House for the tender loving care they provided.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, February 10, at 3:00pm, at Westlawn Memorial Park, China Grove, conducted by Pastor Gene Edwards.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Genesis Baptist Church, China Grove.
Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home is assisting the family.
