

Mr. James Donald Hooks Sr. 84 of China Grove, passed away on November 5, 2017 at his residence. Born on August 4, 1933 in Rowan County , he was the son of the late Martin Lewis and Mary Weddington Hooks. Educated in the Rowan County Schools, he was a lifelong active member of St. Marks Lutheran Church in China Grove. He served his country in the US Army in Germany. Mr. Hooks retired after many years of service from Pillowtex Mills as a fixer in the spinning room. He loved to go fishing at the coast.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded by his wife of 24 years, Helen Looney Hooks, and his brother Thurman Hooks as well as sisters Frances Overcash and Betty Plummer. Those left to cherish his memory are his son James Donald Hooks Jr. (Yolanda) of China Grove and daughter Kathy Hooks of Salisbury , grandchildren Nathan Hooks (Rebecca), Karen McDonald (Tom), Joshua Harrison, Casey Harrison (Cindy) and Lamarcus Kellly and his brother Tony Hooks. Six great grandchildren survive him as well.
Visitation will be on Wednesday night from 7:00 til 9:00 at Linn Honeycutt Funeral Home in ChIna Grove, with funeral on Thursday at 2:00 at St. Marks Lutheran Church in China Grove with Rev. Phil Thorsen, minister. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church P.O. Box 596, China Grove, NC 28023.
