John was a loving, kind-hearted soul who cherished his family deeply. He was known for his gift of gab, always joking and having a good time. He had a passion for riding his motorcycle and enjoyed woodworking in his spare time. John was the type of person who would help anyone he truly cared about; if you needed him for any reason, all you would have to do is call, and he would be there.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Elizabeth Vajda and Rosalee Rae Bihl.
John is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Herlene Ausmann, and their two daughters, Shirlene Deaton (Kenneth) and Michelle Ausmann. He was a proud grandfather to Emily Deaton, Anthony Deaton, Stella Ridenhour, and Izabelle Tarlton, and a great-grandfather to Piper Gordon, Charley Gordon, and Maverick Johnson. John is also survived by his three brothers, Boyd Ausmann (Doris), Damon Ausmann, and Ralph Ausmann, as well as his cherished dog, Bailee.
A visitation will be held at Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home in China Grove on Friday, February 20, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. The funeral service will follow at the funeral home in the North Crest Chapel.
