Mr. John Reid Fiddner, age 75 of China Grove, left for his heavenly home on Friday, September 24, 2021 at NOVANT-Rowan Regional Medical Center after his courageous battle with Covid-19. Born July 25, 1946 in Raleigh, he was the son of the late Dighton M. Fiddner and Trilby Beaver Fiddner. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his unborn son, Jeremy and his granddaughter, Anna Brown. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Salisbury where he served in several capacities.
John graduated from South Rowan High School and then went on to proudly serve his country for over 20 years with the United States Navy. After his retirement, he continued to serve by working first at the Salisbury National Cemetery and then as a maintenance specialist with the V.A. Hospital in Salisbury and was still working until diagnosed with Covid-19.
In his spare time, John LOVED to travel. Gatlinburg, TN was one of his favorites and he and Becky spent much time there, enjoying the sights and the wonderful restaurants. He also loved going out to eat and trying new places, watching his favorite westerns on television and collecting different types of “memorabilia” and such.
Those left to cherish his memory are his son, John Reid Fiddner II (Krystal) and their children, Hanna and Corbin and his loving companion of almost 40 years, Becky Brown along with her sons, Trey (Katie) and their children, Josh Chapman and Jack Norton and Derek (Tara) and their son, Landon, all whom he loved as his own. He leaves behind his only brother, Dighton (Mac) Fiddner, Jr. (Patricia) and his family.
Visitation for John will be on Thursday, September 30, 2021 from 2:00 – 3:00pm at Grace United Methodist Church in Salisbury. Funeral Service will immediately follow at 3:00pm officiated by Rev. Jeff Insley. Burial with Full Military Honors will be on Friday, October 1, 2021 at 9:00am at Salisbury National Cemetery, 501 Statesville Blvd in Salisbury.
