Maxine Basinger Sloop

Salisbury- Maxine Basinger Sloop, 94, peacefully passed away Tuesday afternoon, December 25, 2012, at the Lutheran Home at Trinity Oaks. Born January 27, 1918, in Iredell County, she was a daughter of the late Walter Frank and Ella Jane Edwards Basinger. A proud graduate of Mt. Ulla High School, Mrs. Sloop had retired from Cannon Mills and had been a devoted homemaker. A life-long member of Grace Lutheran Church, Mrs. Sloop taught Sunday school for many years , spending countless hours preparing each lesson. She had also been active in the women of the church and the adult ladies Sunday school class.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband David Wray Sloop on August 28, 2009; two infant sons David and Harold; her sisters, Edith and Margaret Sloop and brothers Frank Harold Basinger and Tony Basinger.

Family members left with cherished memories include her daughter, Linda Medlin and husband, Andy; son, Allen Sloop and wife, Lynn, all of Salisbury; brother, George Basinger and wife, Betty of Concord; grandchildren, Bryant Miller, Tina Musselwhite, Rhonda (Michael) Hiskey, Kimberly (David) Lipe, Samantha (Quinten) Hodges, Tiffany Oliver; great-grandchildren, Chloe, Jade, Sarah, Rachel, Eli, Luke, Madison and Natalee.

The family will receive friends form 10-11 am Friday, December 28, 2012, at Grace Lutheran Church. A funeral service to remember and celebrate Mrs. Sloop's life will begin at 11:00 in the church, conducted by the Rev. Jerome Cloninger, pastor. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
