

Robert Monroe Cottingham Sr. was born at Rowan Memorial Hospital in Salisbury, NC and was the son of Monroe and Helen Cottingham. He had 4 siblings, he being the oldest and 3 younger brothers, Jerry, Mick and Steve plus a sister Deloris.Growng up, he enjoyed playing baseball, football, golf and fishing. He was a football star at China Grove High School in 1956. He went on to earn his Chef Degree. Some of Robert's friends were Barbara Doby, Cervin Chavis, Leon and Ruby Cannon, Dick Colter, Bill and Pat Smith and Peggy Ann Ritchie. Robert got married on April 14, 1956 in York, SC to Peggy Ann. They had 4 children, Robert Jr., Terry, Keith and Angelia. Also surving him are 7 grandchildren Joey, Aron, Capri, Jon, Alec, Michael and Brook.
Robert worked for the NC Department of Corrections for 25 years. His hobbies included carving, painting, racing and landscaping.
Robert enjoyed playing football in high school and fishing, golfing, racing and football. He was a member of the Masons and coached Little League Baseball. Robert was a member of First Baptist Church in China Grove, where he was a Sunday School teacher. His favorite vacations were to Gattlinburg Tn and Disneyworld, Fl. His favorite pets were his poodles, Choco and Bubbles. Robert retired in 2007 in China Grove and spent time with his family. Robert died at home in his sleep. He was survived by his children, Robert Jr., Keith and Angie and his grandchildren, Joey, Aron, Capri, Jon, Alec, Michael and Brook and bother Mick and sister Deloris.
