Born in Rowan County on Christmas Day, 1940, he was the son of the late Carl Ashburn and Bessie Louise Axsom Ashburn.
In addition to his parents, Ronald was also preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, Sammy and Connie Ashburn.
A graduate of China Grove High School – Class of 1959, Ronald worked at China Grove Cotton Mill, and Bendix Westinghouse.
He later worked for twenty years with Food Lion, being recognized as Produce Manager of the Year. He desired to learn multiple aspects of the grocery store operations, so he became a meat cutter, Assistant Store Manager and then was promoted to a Market Manager.
Ronald retired from National Starch Company with twenty years of service as a Chemical Operator.
In 1962, he married Brenda Lee Peacock and together they shared almost 63 years of marriage.
Ronald served on various committees for twenty-seven years at First United Church of Christ in Salisbury. Over the last ten years, his family has made their home at Landmark Church, where Ronald served as a Deacon, served as a member of the Board of Directors and was an usher.
He loved being outdoors keeping the lawn. He loved all kinds of music, especially Beach music and dancing. He had a soft spot for animals and little children. Ronald was loved by all that knew him and he will be greatly missed. A true gentleman even until his final days, he lived his life putting others before himself, sharing the true meaning of love, kindness and care. Ronald was a sweet spirited man that never had a harsh word to say about anyone.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Brenda Ashburn; son, Darren Ashburn; daughter, Tracy Parrish (Gary); sisters, Carla Talbert (Wayne) and Marlene Burris (Larry).
Ronald is further survived by his four grandchildren, Wesley Parrish (Karen), Brittany Sharrock (Matt), Aaron Ashburn and Jarret Ashburn (Britany); five great-grandchildren, Isaac Cowley, Erin Sharrock, Colton Sharrock, Maverick Sharrock and Axel Ashburn; and his beloved canine companion, Marley.
