Ruth (Tutherow) Hames

Mrs. Ruth Tutherow Hames, age 90 of China Grove, passed away on Saturday, May 15, 2021 at NOVANT-Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House in Salisbury after a brief illness. Born November 14, 1930 in Lincoln County, Ruth was the daughter of the late Lloyd Tutherow and Edna Reynolds Tutherow. Her husband, Coin Albert Hames; sons, Alvin Hames and Robert Hames; and her siblings, Paul Tutherow, Clifford Tutherow, Delores Faggart, Pauline Tutherow and Margaret Basinger all preceded her in death.

Ruth was long-time member of Landis Baptist Church and the Betty Honbarrier Sunday school class. She spent her career at the 321 Greenhouse in Granite Falls and later working in production for Harmony Labs, where she retired. She loved to grow and tend to her flowers and helping others. She loved her family dearly.

Those left to cherish her memory are sons, Loyd Albert Hames of Granite Falls, Hugh “P.O.” Hames of China Grove and daughter, Pat Cohee of Hudson. She also leaves behind eleven grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Visitation for Ruth will be on Thursday, May 20, 2021 from 1:00 – 3:00pm at Landis Baptist Church. Funeral service will immediately follow at 3:00pm at the church officiated by Pastor Mike Austin. Burial at the (Historic) National Cemetery in Salisbury will be on Monday, May 24, 2021 at 2:00pm.
