In memory of a decent man. A devoted family man, Adolfo Nevarez migrated his family to the U.S. in 1961 in search of a life worthy of his love. In a time when many lived without, Adolfo Nevarez led a life with honor and dignity. A man who found his true love, Adolfo died happily married to a woman equally as wonderful. As an immigrant laborer, Adolfo worked long hours at a dairy farm; as a father, he found time in between a split shift to train both of his sons at the local boxing gym. A gym where he would build an everlasting legacy of turning fighters into boxers, boxers into champions, and boys into men. In a world where greed and individualism becomes a priority, a simple man shattered the mold. Always there when others were in need, he never shied away from a challenge, and he found joy in arduous work for his family; late in life he would become agitated if not invited to participate in the most simple of home improvement projects. Whether it was financial assistances or a second opinion on parenting and marriage, a hero was there for his family. Unable to decline an opportunity to provide relief, Adolfo Nevarez worked his entire life in order to do so. To most, a day of hard work is rewarded with personal gain but to a virtuous man it is to watch his loved ones live their lives with purpose and happiness. Living in a house many would see as small, he transformed a house into home large enough to provide security to all who might need it. Often times taking on responsibilities not ordinary to grandparents, he and his beautiful wife assumed numerous roles making the two of them an integral part of the family.
This is the way he lived. Adolfo Nevarez need not be idealized or enlarged in death beyond what he was in life, but simply to be remembered as a good and decent man, who saw wrong and tried to right it, saw suffering and tried to heal it. Those of us who loved him and who take him to his rest, pray that what he was to us and what he wished for others will some day come to pass for all the world.
