

Joe S. Arenas, 85, of Chino, passed away March 25, 2010 in Pomona. He was born February 20, 1925 in Ontario, California and was a life long resident of Chino. Joe was a parishioner of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Chino and was proud to have attended D St. School as a child. In WWII he entered the U.S. Army and served with the 106th Division in the Philippines, where he achieved the rank of staff sergeant. He also volunteered as a Boy Scout leader for Troop 207 for over 40 years. In 2009 he took part in the Operation Recognition Veterans Diploma Project and was granted his high school diploma.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Lucy Arenas, and his son, Phillip Arenas. He is survived by his children Kathy Martinez, Michael (Eva) Arenas and Vera (Doug) Pye; 9 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. A visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Chino, with rosary at 7 p.m. A mass will be celebrated 10 a.m., Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at the church. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Pomona. Donations may be made in Joe’s memory to Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 5048 “D” St., Chino, CA 91737.
