Jose “Joe” Pereira Silva was born on the island of San Miguel, Azores, the third of seven children. He married his wife, Mary Connie Machado in 1958 and together they moved to the United States in 1959. There they raised three sons, Joe, William and Johnny.
Joe was a hard worker and milked cows for forty years before retiring at the age of 62. He always had a massive garden and even raised his own beef for many years before moving from Corona to Chino in 1999. He loved to grow his own vegetables and fruits and was always outside pruning roses, palm trees and countless flowers. Over the years his kids were the benefactors of tons of tomatoes, zucchini, lemons, limes, bell peppers, onions, etc. Not to mention pimenta, dozens of jars made from scratch every season and stored like soldiers on shelves in the shed.
Joe had two daughters-in-law, Laura and Tere and was a proud grandfather of 5 grandkids: Johnny Jr (Erika), Joseph (Alex), Dylan (Madee), Jenna (John) and Cory. He loved watching them all grow up and was truly a huge part of their lives. He was also a proud great-grandfather to Jade, Jaxon and Charlee and loved having the littles around.
He was married for 52 years until the Good Lord took Mary Connie home in 2011, and it brings us peace knowing they are together again in heaven. No more pain, just joy.
