Melvina Thomas, 83, of Ontario, passed away October 20, 2011 at home. She was born May 8, 1928 in Winston County, Mississippi. Melvina was a San Diego resident for 21 years prior to moving to Ontario. She was a cafeteria cook for the San Diego School District for 10 years until her retirement in 1981. Melvina was a woman of faith and was a member of Eastern Star and Primm AME Church. She is survived by her children Willie Ruth Powell, Willey A. Thomas III, Kathleen Odom, Mavis Czekanski, Carl M. Thomas and Roderick V. Thomas. She is also survived by 21 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great- grandchildren. Melvina is preceded in death by her husband Willey Thomas and son Atman Thomas. Visitation hours will be 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., Friday, October 28, 2011 at Pierce Brothers Griffith Mortuary in Chino, with funeral services beginning at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside.
