Odette Esteves Rocha was born on May 15th, 1924 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. When she was a young child, her mother moved back to Portugal and shortly after to Terceira in the Azores where she grew up with her three sisters Tina, Elza, and Anna.
As a young adult she married the love of her life Antonio Augusto and they were married in 1951, on St. Anthony’s Day. They had their first son, Tony, in 1952 and raised him for his first two years in Terceira before immigrating to California to pursue the American Dream.
They originally put down roots in Torrance where they welcomed their second son Frank and eventually moved to Chino where they permanently settled. While raising their children, Odette worked as a seamstress while Antonio worked on the local dairy farms.
Odette and Antonio became Va and Bumpa when they were blessed with their first grandchild, Veronica, followed by Michelle, Nicole, Frank, Alesia, and Alex. In total they had 6 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Her grandkids affectionately called her Vovo.
On June 24th, 2001, Odette and Antonio celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary joined by family and friends.
Odette passed away on November 11th, 2023 at the age of 99 years old. She is survived by a family who adored her and loved her dearly. Now she goes to heaven to be reunited with her husband for ever and ever.
Odette is survived by her sons Tony Rocha and Frank Rocha. Her grandchildren Veronica Shebroe, Michelle Rosewitz, Nicole Rocha, Frank Rocha, Alesia Ramirez, Alex Rocha and her nine great-grandchildren.
A visitation for Odette will be held Monday, November 27, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Funeraria Del Angel Chino, 13002 South Central Ave, Chino, CA 91710. A rosary will occur Monday, November 27, 2023 at 6:00 PM, 13002 S. Central Ave., Chino, CA 91710. A funeral mass will occur Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at 11:00 AM at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 12686 Central Ave, Chino, CA 91710. A final resting place will occur Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at 1:00 PM at Bellevue Memorial Park, 1240 W G St,, Ontario, CA 91762.
