A devoted Father to his sons Ron and Chris. A husband of nearly 60 years to the love of his life, wife Sharon. Grandpa to Kayla Vang and Andrew Thomas. Grandpa Santa Claus to great-grandsons Isaac and Juda Vang. And a life long friendship to Ray McIver, "Uncle Ray" to his sons and grandkids.
Dale was the son of the late Antona M Thomas and Melvina Thomas (Gibbs).
Dale was always there to support everything his family did, but also loved Chowchilla.
Dale served as the Chowchila Spring Festival Parade Chairman for over 15 years, served as City Councilman, Parks & Rec Commitee and Heritage Preservation Commission Chairman for the City of Chowchilla.
For the Chowchilla District Chamber of Commerce, he build the largest traveling self propelled parade float in California that won dozens of Sweepstakes awards across the state and was named the Chowchilla District Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Business Leader of the Year 1999. He was the bedrock of the Chowchila District Historical Society. A proud member of the Yosemite Indians/Southern Sierra Miwuk Nation and great-great-grandson of Chief Tenya. Proudly served in the California National Guard with a rank of Sergeant. In 1996, he retired from Pacific Bell after 30 years of service.
Dale loved drag racing and offroading and loved the friends he made there. He would help friend and stranger alike with time, car parts or words of wisdom.
"In the long view of history, what difference will any of our lives make? The true measure of a life is not how many people know our names when we die, but whether we touch the lives of others."
He did.
A Memorial Service for Dale will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2026 at 11:00 am held at the Chowchilla Fairgrounds Eastman Hall Building, 1000 3rd Street, Chowchilla, California.
