

Donald was born May 28, 1931 at Coffeen, IL to Jess Amos and Frieda Marie (Digman) Simmons. He first married Carolyn Jenkins and had a son David Allen Simmons. They were later divorced. He married Rosa Joan Atwood September 11, 1955 at Lawrenceville, IL.
He worked at Champion Lab of Albion, IL for many years as a Paint Booth Operator until he was forced to retire due to bad health. Donald joined the Army serving his country in Korea and Japan. He attended the Enterprise United Methodist Church, was a charter member of Mt. Erie Ruritan Club and was a former mayor of Mt. Erie and helped bring street lighting and the water system to the area. He was known as a great fisherman and gardener. He brought loads of watermelons to the people of Mt. Erie every summer.
Donald is lovingly survived by his wife Joan of Mt. Erie, IL; one daughter Vicky Hicks of Fairfield, IL; four sons David Allen Simmons (& his wife Rita) of St. Charles, MO; Rick Simmons (& his wife Cindy) of Salem, IL; Jesse Simmons (& his wife Cathy) of Geff, IL; Sam Simmons of Olney, IL; Also surviving are 13 grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren, 7 step great grandchildren and 9 great-grand children plus many nieces and nephews and other loved ones.
Preceding him in death was a son David Michael, three sisters Dorothy, Lorene, and Lovetta, and his parents.
Funeral services for Donald Simmons will be 11AM Friday, October 28, 2011 at Hosselton Funeral Home. Burial will be in Travers Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8PM Thursday, October 27, 2011 at the funeral home. Full Military Rites will be given at the graveside.
Memorials in memory of Donald Simmons may be given to the Dr. Scranton Memorial Fund and will be accepted at Hosselton Funeral Home.
