

Van was born March 13, 1949, in Clayton, NC to the late Billy and Pat Garris. Van was a graduate of Clayton High School, Class of 1967, and shortly after joined the Army and served in both Vietnam and Korea.
Van lived his life to the fullest, and always had the ability to reach people in a deep and positive way. He loved chatting with his family, friends, and spending every moment he could with his much-loved service dog, Max. Van never met a stranger.
Van is survived by his daughter Nicole Black of Las Cruces, NM, sisters Dianne Garris Harrison of Sanford, NC, and Janet Garris Morris of Clayton, NC; 6 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, 2 nieces and 2 nephews.
Just like Van dealt with all experiences in life, he managed this illness with strength and grace, and spent his final days encircled by his daughter Nicole and stepdaughter Kristen.
He is preceded in death by his parents. A graveside memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 26th, at 1:00 pm. Location: Pinecrest Memorial Park, 12830 US 70 Business Hwy W., Clayton, NC 27520.
Van will forever be remembered and missed by his family.
