

A funeral service for Reverend Jones will be held 11:00 AM Monday, June 20, 2022 at McLaurin Funeral Home, 12830 US 70 Business Highway West, Clayton, North Carolina with entombment following in the mausoleum of Pinecrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at the funeral home, prior to the service.
Reverend Broadus Jones, affectionately called “Pap” or “BJ”, was born November 10, 1938 to the late Frank Jones and the late Sally Patterson Jones in Camden, South Carolina. He peacefully went to be with Lord on June 14, 2022 when the Lord said, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest”.
Reverend Jones joined Ebenezer AME Zion Church and attended Ebenezer and Dusty Bend Schools, all in Camden, South Carolina. In 1953, at age 13, he and his family relocated to Buffalo, New York. In 1962 he relocated again to Englewood and Teaneck, New Jersey and married Corliss Dorsey, and to this union they had two children, Rodney Jones and Tanya Jones.
Reverend Jones never met a stranger and cherished a good conversation about education and guiding young people in securing their future and finances, genealogy, his beloved Shiloh Lodge #53, Golconda Shiners #24, traveling throughout the US and multiple countries but the bravado of his voice shifted to a high note when he talked about his almighty Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
In 1980 Reverend Jones gave his life to the Lord and in 1983 he became licensed to preach God's word and within a short two years in 1985 he became ordained by John Wesley Baptist Church of Rutherford, New Jersey.
In 1996 he accepted the role of Pastor to Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Leonia, New Jersey and he led the charge by including Mt. Zion and congregants into the National Baptist Convention which they traveled yearly to the National and Sunday School Conventions throughout the country.
In 2001 he retired from Maywood DPW, United States Army Reserve and in 2004 relocated to Clayton, North Carolina. Moreover, he relished being socially active and held memberships over the years to: Member of the Board of Teaneck Recreation Department (1983-1986), Member of Shiloh Lodge #53 Englewood, New Jersey (1976), Worshipful Master, Shiloh #53, Chaplain, Shiloh #53, Consisery #41 Newark, New Jersey (1977-1978), Joshua #15 High Priest Hackensack, New Jersey, Golconda Temple #24 Newark, New Jersey, Assistant Grand Chaplain MWGL State of New Jersey, Black Clergy Member (1996-2004), North Jersey District Baptist Association, New Jersey State Baptist Convention and the National Baptist Convention.
Reverend Broadus Jones leaves to cherish his precious memories his wife, Corliss Dorsey Jones of Clayton, North Carolina; five children, Michelle (Rev. Keith) Burley of New Castle, Pennsylvania, Pamela (Chris) Cross of Loganville, Georgia, Veronica Merritt of Round Rock, Texas, Rodney (Jacqueline) Jones of Garner, North Carolina, Tanya Jones of Conway, South Carolina; a son, Kevin Jones predeceased him; seven grandchildren, Na’Kiesha Chevalier, Vanessa Colvin, Dr. Brianna Jones, Kiesha Burley, David Burley, Jasmine Jones and Nicole Jones; one great grandson, Hazaiah Colvin; one brother, Rufus Jones of Buffalo, New York and one sister, Doris Jones of Buffalo, New York; three sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; and a over 50 year friendship with Jason “Bobo” Birtha of Englewood, New Jersey.
