David Alston

David Alston was born on August 24, 1944 in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. He was the 8th of nine children to late Mae Bell and Richard Alston. David attended Booker T Washington, but had to postpone his future studies and began working at an early age. He later meet and married Gladys A. Brown in December 1964. David relocated him and his family to Clayton, North Carolina, but despite being located far from his natural sisters, David continued to nourish their relationships. David is remembered for his independent spirit, bright smile and humorous personality. David answered the call of the Lord on Saturday, August 27, 2016. He leaves to cherish his memories to his wife of 51 years Gladys Alston of Smithfield, North Carolina; six children: Reginald (Yolander) Alston of Smithfield, North Carolina; Sharmen (Ernest) Dixon of Garner, North Carolina; Denise Alston of Greensboro, North Carolina; Rochelle (Edward) Burgess of Smithfield, North Carolina; Brian Alston of Princeton, North Carolina; and Dominick Alston of Smithfield, North Carolina; ten grandchildren: Nashawn Alston, Sharvan McNellie, Anise McNellie, Johnathan Brooks, Kneesha Carmack, Araya Carmack, Shakeyta Alston, Jasmine Alston, Samaira Ruffin Burgess, Cayden Alston, Nevaeh Alston; five great grandchildren; two sisters: Martha (Charles) Huggins of Brooklyn, New York and Mary McClary of Farmingville, New York, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends. He will be missed but never forgotten.
