

David Spencer Johnson, age 79, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday March 19, 2015. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Rose Hare Johnson. They have two children of whom he was very proud, David Brian Johnson and wife Althea, and Jennifer Johnson Wise. He has three wonderful grandchildren, Hannah Clarice Johnson, Madeline Rose Johnson, and Jacob Michael Wise. He is survived by one brother, William Edward Johnson, and one sister, Betty Johnson Dale, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Madison M. Johnson, three brothers and three sisters. He also enjoyed spending time with his many friends and was inspired and uplifted by them. Spencer was defined by his Christian faith, strength of character, and determination. He courageously battled with Parkinson’s Disease for over 15 years. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, a quiet steady man who set a good example with his kind spirit and strong work ethic. He loved gospel music, sports, politics, and history. Spencer served his country in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956. He was a member of American Legion Post 71. He was a graduate of Clayton High School, where he played football, and also attended King’s Business College. He has been a member of First Baptist Church of Clayton since 1961. His church family was very special to him. Funeral service will be held 3:00 Sunday at the First Baptist Church of Clayton with Dr. Mark White officiating. Burial will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Sunday from 1:30 – 2:30 at the First Baptist Church.
