David Anthony Sabio passed away on February 27, 2026 at the age of 53. His final wish to spend his last moments on earth in his beloved “yarden” was fulfilled with the loving support of his family and chosen family.
A Raleigh native, David was a 1991 graduate of Sanderson High School. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology from North Carolina State University in 1996. In 2000 David completed the Computer Art & Animation program at the School of Communication Arts (currently known as the Living Arts College). This prepared him for a successful 23 year career as a Senior Digital Pathology Illustrator at Experimental Pathology Labs, Inc. During his time at EPL, Inc. David developed countless friendships with coworkers and was very grateful for the outpouring of love and support he received from them throughout his challenge with pancreatic cancer.
David is survived by his steadfast wife Christine; his first best friend and sister Tippi Hales; his sister-in-law Kathleen Yaninek (John); nephews Zachary and Alek and niece Tatiana.
Additionally, David was extremely loved by extended and chosen family members including the Arthur, Brockenfelt, Dillree, Hales, Hall, Levy, McKay, Neeley, Tonge and Wright families.
David had a profound appreciation of life. He created a beautiful “yarden” and many amazing works of art. He had a gift for building community wherever he went. He was brave, compassionate, selfless and strong. And he remained REBELLIOUSLY OPTIMISTIC.
David was a passionate advocate for pancreatic cancer awareness and research. He was determined to make a difference for others facing the same fight. Therefore, we ask that donations be made in David’s memory to Project Purple (projectpurple.org) or to David’s Silver Linings Team for the Pancreatic Cancer Network 2026 Purple Stride. (https://secure.pancan.org/site/TR/PurpleStride/PurpleStride?pg=team&team_id=67622&fr_id=3107).
There will be a celebration of David’s life at a date to be determined.
