David Allen Sommers

David Sommers passed into the arms of Jesus on June 19, 2023, at the age of 77. Dave was born November 27, 1945, in Meadville, PA. The 3rd of 8 kids, Dave grew up in the Mennonite community and attended Cochranton High School. He also attended First Mennonite Church where he met his wife, Arlene (Kline). They married on August 8, 1964, and lived in Pennsylvania until moving to North Carolina in 1996. Dave was self-employed as a carpenter and general handyman, using his skills to bless those around him with Carpenters for Christ. Dave was also an elder and active member at Wellspring Community Church in Clayton, NC. He was known for his work ethic and his willingness to serve behind the scenes. He loved the Pittsburgh Steelers, fishing and golfing in his free time. Dave truly loved his Savior and His family, serving both well until his passing.

In addition to his wife, Dave is survived by his four children, Duane Sommers, Brian Sommers, Michelle Miller and Raquel “Roxie” Sommers and his six grandchildren, Nathan (Maddie) Groover, Derek, Alicia (Chad) Taylor, Kayla, Serena, and Matti (Bruno) Suppa, and seven great-grandchildren, Chloe, Delilah, Autumn, Coleson, Elijah, Willow, and Casey. He is also survived by four brothers and his sister, Leon (Norma) Sommers, Mervin (Lydia) Sommers, Clarence (Joan) Sommers, Paul (Marilyn) Sommers and Velma Taylor. He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Ada Sommers, and two brothers, Leroy Sommers and Gerald Sommers.

While flowers are accepted, memorial contributions may also be made to Koinonia Reformed Baptist Church, 1008 S. Lombard St. Clayton, NC 27520.

The family will receive friends at McLaurin Funeral Home in Clayton from 6:00 to 8:00pm on Friday, June 23, 2023. Funeral services will be held at Koinonia Reformed Baptist Church on Saturday, June 24, 2023, at 11:00am with the interment following at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Clayton.
