Doris Kenny Eckardt

Doris K. Eckardt, daughter of the late Franklin G. and Vera Unterreiner Kenny passed away on Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at Brookdale Assisted Living Facility. She was 90 years of age. Doris graduated from Nutley High School in N.J., following her graduation, she went to work for N.J. Bell. In 1949, she married Clifford Eckardt. They lived in Pompton Plains, NJ for over 30 years where they raised their three children. Doris was a devoted stay-at-home Mom. Upon Clifford’s retirement, they moved to Wilmington, NC where Doris enjoyed visits from children and grandchildren, time at the beach and traveling with her husband. Doris will be remembered for her smile and kindness to all. She was an avid animal lover and opened her heart and home to many creatures over the years.

She is survived by her son, Kevin Eckardt and wife, Yvonne Clifton-Young; daughters, Nancy Brewer, Lisa Simon and husband, Joe; grandchildren, Ian Eckardt and wife Andrea, Erin Corbera, Shannon Watts, Derrick Dalton, Michael Simon and wife, Faye, Tia Simon, Jason Simon and John Simon. Great grandchildren, Trey Watts, Ethan Watts, Bryson Watts, Chloe Watts, Emery Eckardt, Josephine (Josie) Eckardt and Joseph Simon. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Clifford Eckardt; and a daughter, Denise Mary Eckardt.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Ann Catholic Church in Clayton at a later date.
