Doris Green Peele, age 95, went home to her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, July 31, 2024. Doris, a loving wife, mother and grandmother was born in Johnston County on August 26, 1928 to the late George and Bettie Johnson Green. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband, James Lester Peele, a son, James Lester Peele, Jr. and a daughter, Gwen P. Ennis.
Mama Peele was a true "Country Lady" at heart. She loved to work in her flowers and cut her grass. She loved to see her vegetable garden grow and canned and froze vegetables out of necessity to feed her large family. She always assisted her husband, Lester, on their farm in addition to working at Beddingfield Drug Store for over 25 years. She was a woman who wasn't afraid of work and also read her Bible and devotion each morning. She loved her Lord Jesus and her family. She also loved to sit on the porch in her latter days and talk about old times - sometimes easy times and sometimes hard times. She was a determined woman who knew she had to do what she needed to do to make it work. She will surely be missed. She was a member at Bethesda Baptist Church for 40 years. We would like to thank the staff of Barbour Court Nursing Home, (Sparks Unit), for their care, also Cardinal Hospice.
She is survived by her daughters, Jan Moss and husband, Harvey, Gail Southerland and husband, Kent, and Vickie Olds and her husband, John; grandchildren, Brandon Olds, Derek and Monica Olds, Chad and Brittany Olds, Amber and Ryan Polk, Tyler and Mandy Southerland, Joshua and Stacey Dean, Matt and Lindsey Broadwell, Jana Moss and Kelli and Richard Dupree; great grandchildren, Brooke, Lacey, and Hunter Olds, Jackson Polk, Emma Grace & Noah Dean, Stoney James Broadwell, Brooks Dupree and Presley Dupree.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2024 at 2:00pm in the chapel of McLaurin Funeral Home with the family receiving friends one hour prior to the service from 1:00 until 2:00pm. The interment will follow the services at Pinecrest Memorial Park.
While flowers are accepted, memorial contributions in Doris’ name may be made to a charity of your choice.
