

Durward Lee Nichols, 70, passed away after a short illness. He was born in Johnston County to the late John W. Nichols, Sr. and Ruby Bryant Nichols. He lived with his parents and worked on the farm until he was 61 years of age. After his mother passed away in 2007, he has been living in an assisted living facility and been very satisfied. The staff there just loved him to death. He has faced mental challenges throughout his life but has been happy all his life. He enjoyed fishing, eating and talking on the phone. He always had a good heart and wanted to share and help others. He felt important when he served as an usher in his church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Chalmers Byrd. He is survived by a sister; Peggy Byrd and a brother; J.W. Nichols and wife Annie; and a niece Teresa Smith and husband Norwood. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 Sunday, November 13, 2016 in the chapel of McLaurin Funeral Home with Pastor Lloyd Hargis officiating, interment will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park. While flowers are accepted, memorial contributions may also be made to: Community Home Care and Hospice, 960 NC Hwy 42 W. Clayton, NC 27520.
