

He was born May 28,1946, to Everette and Oneda Starnes, the second of two children.
Dyke was a devoted husband, father, brother and friend. He was married June 15, 1968, to Paul Marie Starnes, and they were married for 56 years. They have two children, Angela Marie Starnes Snapp, and Dyke Wayne Starnes, Jr. and wife, Lisa; four grandchildren: William Thomas Snapp, IV, Maren Grace Snapp, Paige Elizabeth Starnes, and Kaelyn Marie Starnes. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Martha Elliott, one nephew, one niece, and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his sister, Evelyn Jeanette Starnes Sigmon and her husband William Reginald Sigmon, Sr., as well as his brother-in-law, John Elliott.
Dyke graduated from Granite Falls High School, and then NC State, with a B.S. in Civil Engineering. He later completed studies for a Master of Engineering from Old Dominion University. He worked as a professional engineer for 48 years, and was employed by Insteel Wire Products of Mount Airy, NC for most of his career. He was a dedicated member of Mount Moriah Baptist Church in Raleigh, NC for over 30 years, where he served in roles such as Deacon, Committee Member, and Sunday School Teacher. He always enjoyed time with family and friends, and outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing and golfing.
The family will receive friends Saturday, September 7, 2024 from 10:00-11:00 AM with the funeral to follow at 11:00 AM, all at Mount Moriah Baptist Church, with Rev. Michael Tolar officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Moriah Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to:
