Edna Richard was born March 28, 1925 in Richmond, Virginia to Mr. Louis and Virginia Smith. Edna attended High School in Richmond, where she married her first husband, Junius Smith. During their time together, they had two sons, Junius Clyde Smith, Jr. and James Welton Smith.
At the end of their union, Edna moved to New York City with her two sons, where she worked at 740 Broadway, New York, in the Garment District from 1951 to 1970. During that time, she met William Henry Richard and was married October 31, 1968. They had one child, Virginia Zelda Richard. In 1970, Edna started working for the New York City Transit Authority as a railroad clerk. She was employed there for 20 years before retiring in 1990.
Edna was an active member of Rush Temple A.M.E. Mount Zion Methodist Church, in Jamaica, New York. She served on the usher, choir, and stewardess boards. Edna was also a member of the Fantastic Ladies and Seltzer Club.
Edna leaves behind three children, Junius Clyde Smith, Jr., James Welton Smith, and Virginia Zelda Richard; fifteen grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren.
