He is survived by a son, Edward W. Smith; his daughters, Sharon Muller and her husband, Adam, Sandra King and her husband, Howard; 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his wife, Sarah R. Smith; brothers, Donald Smith, Eugene Smith and Alvin Smith, Jr.; and one sister, Bernice Shuart.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2025 at 2:00pm at Millbrook United Methodist Church in the Pryor Bradford Building, Raleigh. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
