Born in Knoxville, TN on October 26, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Raymond Bruce and Norma Florence Bouton Johnson. She moved with her family in the early 1950s to Hagerstown, MD, where she lived the remainder of her life, until her recent move to North Carolina with her daughter Susan.
Eleanor had a wide circle of family and friends; she was loved and appreciated for her cheerfulness, her positive, hopeful attitude and her abundant hospitality. She was a person of many talents and abilities. She was a great cook and in addition to cooking for her own family, she prepared and delivered many, many meals to the sick and those who needed help. She was also, an excellent photographer and an excellent seamstress.
Animals were perhaps her greatest passion. She loved horses and had several horses in her earlier years. She was a life-long dog groomer, breeder and owner-handler and was president of the Chinese Crested Club of Potomac for six years.
Eleanor was a life-long Christian and a member of the Battlefield Bible Church. She and her husband hosted Bible study groups in their home.
Eleanor is survived by daughters Susan Groves and Carol McHenry, son Robert Groves (Lisa), 7 grand-children and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband Edward, son Edward Jr., brother Bill Johnson, half-brother Raymond Johnson Jr., two grandsons and one great-grandson.
A memorial service for Eleanor was held on June 11th, for close family and friends at Battlefield Bible Church in Hagerstown MD. The family is very grateful for the love and support of family and friends at this sad time.
