Born July 2, 1932, in Grimesland. Frances was the daughter of the late Noah “Lake” and Mabel Arnold Buck. Frances was greeted in heaven by her loving husband of nearly 61 years, Willie “Bill” Chadwick Reams and loving granddaughter Holly Frances Reams. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Murray “Buddy” Buck, Bobby Buck, Noah Buck, Lou Buck Brown, and Shirley Buck Taylor.
Frances grew up on the farm, learning the values of hard work and serving God from her parents. After finishing high school, she attended East Carolina where she met the love of her life from Winterville, Bill Reams. Upon graduating from ECU, Frances went to Virginia to start her teaching career. She married Bill on June 26, 1955, when he came home from Japan after spending his time in the Air Force. During her career as a teacher in Archer Lodge, Cleveland, and Garner school districts, Frances touched many young minds. When she and Bill retired, they enjoyed living part of the time on Yellow Mountain near Newland. Frances was able to pursue numerous hobbies while in the mountains like quilting, knitting/crochet, sewing, and volunteered to teach these skills to Cooperative programs. She also enjoyed going with Bill to yard sales, bird watching, and listening to Blue Grass and Gospel music. Frances loved cheering for the Carolina Tarheels, fishing, growing things in her garden, doing puzzles, and most importantly, her family.
Frances leaves her son, Roger and Teresa Reams of Middlesex; her daughter, Sue and Herman Mitchiner of Clayton; her granddaughters, Alison and Bill Kilpatrick, Mia and Chris Richard, Mollie and Matt Parrish, and Robin Reams; her great grandkids, Will and Parker Kilpatrick, Sophia, Levi, and Nash Richard, and Dottie and Henry Parrish. In addition, Frances leaves cherished memories of her nephews and nieces, cousins, dear friends and neighbors whom she thought so much of.
A heartfelt thanks to the staff of Heartland Hospice for their love and support. Also, to all the caregivers who mean so much to our family. Frances loved each of you.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 pm, Thursday, February 8th, 2024, in the chapel of McLaurin Funeral Home in Clayton. Following the visitation, a graveside service will be held at 2 pm at Pinecrest Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice in her memory.
