Gertrude L. Benson

Gertrude was born in Johnston County, NC to David and Carrie Langley on November 11, 1935. She went to school in Johnston County. She married Alvin "Hump" Young Benson on January 12, 1951 in Auburn, NC.

She worked as a seamstress for Norwich Mills for several years.

She loved spending time with family and friends more than they knew. She always enjoyed doing for others. Going to the beach and fishing was her favorite pastime. It was even better if you were her guest, and you could fish together, eat together and just spend time together.

Gertrude is preceded in death by Alvin, her husband of 62 years.

Gertrude is survived by three children, Elaine and Ivan Tutor of Raleigh, NC, Dianne and Larry Green of Garner, NC, Steve and Sandy Benson of Garner, NC; five siblings, Leona Walker, Carolyn and Curtis Whitley, Johnny and Dorothy Langley, David "Bill" Langley, Teresa and Daylan Mitchell; ten grandchildren), Neal and Cindy Tutor, Mark and Jessica Tutor, Scott and Cindi Green, Kevin and Tonya Green, Emily and Noah Kight, Melissa Benson and Mark Grissom, Jeremy and Christina Benson, Zachary Benson and Ashleigh Greene, Elizabeth Halloran, Thomas Halloran and many great-grandchildren, Carson Tutor, Cara Woods, Julia Woods, Nathan Woods, Lydia Tutor, Katy Tutor, Ethan Green, Tyler Green, Travis Green, Tucker Green, Tallan Green, Chris Hall, Chyenne Eubanks, Cameron Eubanks, Carley Grissom, Dalton Grissom, Blyth and Aubrey Benson.

Pallbearers will be Neal Tutor, Mark Tutor, Scott Green, Kevin Green, Zachary Benson, and Noah Kight.

The family of Gertrude wishes to extend our sincere thanks to all her family and friends who visited, sent cards and/or made calls to her. She loved you all.

Visitation will be 11-12:30 pm on Friday March 30, 2018 at McLaurin Funeral Home, 12830 US 70 Bus Hwy W, Clayton, NC 27520.

Funeral services will be held at 1pm on Friday, March 30, 2018 at McLaurin Funeral Home with the Rev. Charlie Petit of Lanwood Chapel officiating. Burial will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park.
