

James Everett Barbee "Jim" age 54 of Clayton NC was called home to his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, December 28, 2021. He was born November 12, 1967 to George and Sue Barbee and grew up in Andersonville, TN. He attended Anderson County High School in Clinton, TN. He joined and served in the US Army Reserves for 6 years. He graduated with a Masters Degree in Clinical Social Work from University of Tennessee Knoxville. He married his high school sweetheart Mary Anna Butcher on May 28, 1988 in Lake City TN. After completing his education in Knoxville, the couple moved to Nebraska/Iowa where he worked three years as a therapist for Boys Town and CHI Health. The couple then moved to North Carolina where he worked as Director at Methodist Home for Children. therapist for Johnston Psychiatric Associates (currently Mind Path) as well as Wake County Government where he retired after 20 years of service. He also had his own personal practice for seven years in Garner NC.
Jim and Mary Anna had two daughters, Kayla and Rachel. He also had two grandchildren which he greatly adored - James (his namesake) and Charlotte.
Jim enjoyed spending time relaxing at the beach with his family and grandchildren. He was cherished in life for his humor and genuine care for everyone he knew and will be remembered as an example of selfless service to all.
Jim was a fun loving and hard working individual whose heart was full of love and who was devoted to his family and faith. He was a leader in his professional life.
Jim is preceded in death by his father, George Barbee and his mother-in-law Mary Foster Butcher. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Mary Anna Butcher Barbee; his daughters, Kayla Driver (Adam) and Rachel Barbee; his grandchildren, James and Charlotte Driver; his mother, Sue Barbee; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jack and Connie Butcher; his brother, George (Robbie) Barbee; his sisters, Tammy Morgan (Martin) and Mary "Janie" Shaw (Ken) who was his twin; sister-in-law Sondra DeVaney; brothers-in-law Robert Butcher(Kristy), Brian Lawson (Heather),, Wesley Lawson (Marsha) as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
A small private family ceremony will be held on December 31, 2021 at 2 pm at McLaurin Funeral Home in Clayton NC. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to St Ann's Catholic Church in Clayton NC.
