

Janet “Jan” Marsh Johnson, age 78, of Garner, NC, died peacefully on Saturday, April 12, 2025, surrounded by her three daughters, at SECU Hospice House in Smithfield, NC. Born August 15, 1946, in Frederick, Maryland, she was the daughter of Robert and Lavenia Hargett Marsh. She was the wife of the late Ronald David Johnson. They were married for 50 years. She graduated from Frederick High School and the University of Maryland with a Bachelor of Science degree, with honors. She was a schoolteacher for Wake County Schools for 27 years. She taught all ages, Elementary, Middle School, and High School students. Her specialty was Reading, English, and Social Studies. She was an avid reader and liked to learn new things. In her spare time, she enjoyed walking around the neighborhood, talking to family and friends on the phone, sitting on the porch watching Tyler and Timothy play basketball, and going to Carolina Beach.
She was an active member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Cary, NC and then Hayes Barton Baptist Church in Raleigh, NC.
Jan is preceded in death by her parents Robert and Lavenia Marsh of Frederick, Md, and her late husband, Ronald David Johnson of Garner, NC. Jan is survived by her three daughters: Kristina Yeatts and husband Jim of Garner, NC, Suzanne Powell and husband Denny of Marco Island, FL, and Aimee Jones, and husband Wes, of Wilmington, NC, as well as seven grandchildren: Caroline Arden, Katie Arden, Matthew Jones, Samantha Jones, Jacob Jones, Tyler Yeatts, and Timothy Yeatts. Her older sister, Linda Marsh, her younger brother Bobby Marsh, and his wife Suzanne Marsh of Frederick, Md.
The family of Jan Johnson wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the members of Hayes Barton Baptist Church. They also appreciate the loving and gracious care she received at UNC Johnston Health in Clayton, NC, and the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield, NC.
A Celebration of Life Service for Jan will be held on Friday, April 25, 2025, at 11:00am at Hayes Barton Baptist Church, located at 1800 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh, NC 27608 with Rev. Dr. David Hailey, of Hayes Barton Baptist Church, and Rev. Kristina Yeatts, of Asbury and Lebanon UMC, officiating. Inurnment and a Reception will follow afterwards.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Jan’s name to Hayes Barton Baptist Church for the ministries of Sonshine in the Park, a feeding ministry, and the Galatians 6:2 fund.
