Kandis (Kandi) Michelle Mullins Runyon, age 54, left our Earthly embrace on August 5th, 2025, to meet her beloved Lord and Savior. She was born the daughter of James Mullins and Diana Jean (Runyon) Mullins, in Huntington, WV on May 20th, 1971.
Kandi was preceded in death by her mother, Diana Mullins and her youngest son Brandon Blake Runyon, her husband’s parents, Bill Runyon, Sr. and Anna Marsh, a brother-in-law, Ken Runyon, and a niece, Brandy Long.
Kandi graduated “Class of 1989” from Man High School, in West Virginia, as the Historian of her class, and a three-year Cheerleader for the MHS Hillbillies, and also proudly served as Homecoming Queen her senior year.)
Upon High School Graduation, she married the love of her life and husband of 36 years, Steven “Mike” Runyon and left for SJAFB to be an AirForce wife while attending Wayne Community College in Goldsboro and graduated the Associate Dental Hygiene Program while her husband served in the Persian Gulf War.
Upon College graduation, she pursued a very long and successful career in Dental Hygiene, serving longest with her mentor and beloved employer, Dr. Daniel Lotz, DDS, who was a great encourager in her faith, as well as her career. After Dr. Lotz retirement, Kandi worked for many dental offices in Wake and Johnston counties enjoying patients of all ages within many families. Her face lighting up to greet the elderly and delighting the children with a prize from the “treasure chest” after their brave visit to the dentist office. Kandi always strived to make everyone feel special and loved. After leaving the dental field for health reasons, she poured her heart and love into crafting and volunteering at Princeton Church Worship and Arts, as well as her church’s media departments. Her favorite contribution to the children was the production of “Down by the Creek Bank” a play written by Dottie Rambo and David Huntsinger. Kandi was a gifted homemaker and enjoyed hand crafting many items for friends and families such as knitted baby caps for premature babies in the NICU department, baby blankets for new arrivals, glass etching, charcuterie boards and t-shirts for their special occasions. We all will miss the Christmas deliveries of her homemade cinnamon hard rock candy, a loved treat by us all.
While finishing her degree at Wayne Community College she was also preparing to become a first time Mom with Justin right after graduation and then while working a successful career, and being a loving mother and wife, she added to her joys of motherhood with the birth of Brandon Blake, who were both Kandi’s pride and joy… until the birth of her prayer answered desire to be a grandmother to a beautiful baby girl, Miss Elliotte Ann, being the apple of her eye.
Kandi was a most precious and beautiful lady inside and out and those left to cherish her memory are Husband Mike, Son Justin (Kasey) Runyon, Father Jim (Becky) Mullins, Sister Kam Mullins Curry, Brother-in-law, Dexter Curry, Brother Kem (Connie) Mullins, Sister Sarah (Joshua) Akers. Her special nephews Eli and JC Curry, Dalton Mullins, Kristian Mullins and beloved niece Kaiden Macey, as well as her Runyon family nieces and nephews and their families. Lastly her precious girl pups Sofie Ella and Ava Grace who brought much joy and comfort to her life.
Visitation will be 8:30am-10:30am Saturday, August 9th at Princeton Church 6085 US Hwy 70 E, Princeton, NC 27569 with her Celebration of Life Service following immediately thereafter. Services officiated by Pastor Matthew Cornett and the pastoral staff at Princeton Church.
