Marshall was born in Fayetteville, NC on June 11, 1947, to the late Marshall L. and Lottie Beard Odom. After graduating from Seventy First High School in Fayetteville, NC, Marshall then received his undergraduate degree and medical degree from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. He dedicated his life to caring for others as a trauma and emergency room physician, bringing compassion and skill to all his patients.

Outside of medicine, he found great joy in spending time in the Florida Keys where he also practiced medicine while embracing the coastal life- he loved boating, scuba diving and golfing with family and friends. He cherished time in the NC mountains- especially skiing and outdoors. Marshall also had a love for horses; he secretly wanted to be a cowboy! Marshall's greatest accomplishment is his four children, 1 daughter and 3 sons.
