Corky was born in Germany on June 5, 1955 to the late William Marvin McLendon and the late Ruth Anderson McLendon.
He was a retired mechanic with the North Carolina Department of Transportation. Corky was a proud member of Cleveland Volunteer Fire Dept for over 20 years. Corky’s position was the Safety Officer, #10. He pioneered the first responder program serving as the Chief of the First Responders for several years. He was a member of Five Points Southern Cruisers Riding Club where he enjoyed many motorcycle rides with his life partner, Joy. Corky loved spending time at Atlantic Beach with his partner Joy and fishing with his four grandsons.
He is survived by his lifetime partner of 23 years, Joy Robbins; Daughter, Valencia “Vinnie” McLendon of Texas; Stepchildren; Wally and Stacie Robbins, Kim and Dan Walsh, all of Massachusetts; Grandchildren: Zack Robbins, Jared Walsh, Nick Robbins and Colin Walsh; Brother Wayne McLendon and spouse Jill. Niece Carly and nephew Carson; Sister, Denise Simmons, niece Stephanie and nephew Sawyer. Corky also leaves behind several other family members as well as his beloved family-friends at Atlantic Beach, NC.
Celebration of life will be at a later date.
