

Mary Tipton Maybee, age 90, of Clayton, North Carolina passed away peacefully on September 12, 2019 at the Transitions LifeCare Hospice House in Raleigh, North Carolina. Her beloved husband of 68 years, Clyde B. Maybee, Jr., passed away on September 2, 2019, so a joint service has been planned to celebrate their lives together.
The memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 19, 2019 at White Oak Baptist Church, 13943 Buffalo Rd, Clayton, North Carolina with Pastor Scott Bolton, officiating. A luncheon reception for friends and family will follow at the Archer Lodge Community Center. A family burial service will be planned for a later date in Spring City, Tennessee, to be overseen by their nephew, Dr. David McNabb. Arrangements are by McLaurin Funeral Home in Clayton, North Carolina.
Mary Maybee was born in Erwin, Tennessee to Alvin and Bessie Tipton on June 28, 1929. Mary moved to Middle River, Maryland with her family and attended Kenwood High School where she met Clyde Maybee. They were married on January 6, 1951 at Middle River Baptist Church and moved to Fort Bliss, Texas where Clyde served in the Army. After returning to Maryland, Mary worked as a secretary and office manager until 1962 when their daughter, Lee Anne, was born. She was devoted wife, mother, grandmother, caretaker, aunt, friend and actively volunteered her time at school and church. Her devotion to God was evident every day by her acts of kindness and warm hugs.
Mary Maybee is preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Maybee, parents, Alvin and Bessie Tipton, and siblings, Thelma Cowher, Kathleen McNabb and John Alvin Tipton. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Lee Anne and Dean Hamke, treasured granddaughter, Deanna Hamke, sister-in-law, Ruth Tipton, and blessed by numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the White Oak Church family for their prayers, visits, cards and support. Special thanks to the wonderful doctors and nurses at Johnston Health – Clayton hospital, WakeMed Cary, and to the devoted staff at Transitions LifeCare Hospice for their loving care.
