
Paul Murphy Forbes, 86, died Thursday, May 22, 2014 after a brief illness. A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday May 24th at the First Baptist Church in Clayton. The family will receive family and friends following the service in the church fellowship hall. A private burial will be held before the memorial service Saturday morning. Paul was born December 25, 1927 in Linville, NC. He was the son of the late Murphy Forbes and Jesse Belle Hall. Paul was educated in Old Fort, Black Mountain and Asheville, NC. As a Veteran, after WWII, Paul was part of the clean up operation in Germany, helping to free the Jews that had been imprisoned in Europe during the war. After his military obligation was satisfied he returned to college and finished an accounting degree with Kings Business College in Asheville. In 1962 Paul moved his family to Clayton N.C. taking an engineering position with the N.C. Department of Correction, retiring in 1990. As a retiree, Paul became an active volunteer with the American Legion in Clayton, Johnston County Shrine Club and First Baptist Church. Paul was a dear friend to many and many have been his friend, especially the ROMEO club that met every morning for coffee. Paul is predeceased by his loving wife Helen Juanita Webb of 63 years; his parents; 3 brothers and 3 sisters. He is survived by 2 children, Patricia Forbes Poe and spouse Charles Aycock Poe, Jr. of Raleigh, NC and Dolores Forbes Worlds of Oxford, NC; grandchildren, Deanna Worlds Hart and spouse James Christopher Hart, Charles Aycock Poe, III, Catherine Denise Worlds, and Clarence Hamilton Poe; great grandchildren; Chase Alexander Hart and Davis Anderson Hart. Surviving siblings: Marilyn Freeman, Peggy Sayles, Mary Evelyn Cable, Betty Jo Jackson, Helen Marie Lail, Allen Forbes, Edna Forbes Moonyham, David Forbes, Ben Forbes and many nieces and nephews who loved him greatly. The family would like to thank all the physicians, nurses and health care team involved with Paul’s wonderful care at UNC-Rex and Granville Memorial Hospital during this brief illness. Especially Mary Ann Lively for her loving care and support during this time.
