

Peggy Jean Davis, age 78, of Clayton, NC, passed away on Sunday, February 15, 2026, at UNC Chapel Hill Hospital. Born in Cheraw, South Carolina, on December 10, 1947, she was a daughter to the late Evans Hutson and Pearl Wells Hutson.
Peggy was a devoted homemaker while her children were growing up. Later in life she enjoyed working in retail. She attended church regularly throughout her life. Peggy especially enjoyed volunteering at Vacation Bible School. She attended Shiloh Baptist Church while she was able and later attended XRC in Clayton, NC, and Troy First Baptist with her daughters.
She loved spending time with family, especially doing activities like playing games and going places with her grandkids.
Peggy enjoyed crafts with a special talent for woodworking, making many special pieces for her family. She was artistic and creative. She also had a deep love for animals, especially dogs and horses.
Peggy married the late Rhumilles (Junior) Davis and together they had two loving and devoted daughters, Crystal Pitts (Sam) and Wanda Sharpe (Jim). She had eight grandkids, Ben Pitts (Skyler), Caroline Pitts, Joy Willmore (Luke), Nick Sharpe, Anna Sharpe, Emme Sharpe, John Sharpe and Katherine Sharpe. She had one great grandson, Ezra Willmore, two brothers and one sister, Jimmy Hutson, Evans Hutson and Mildred Charton.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she is preceded in death by her sister, JoAnn Huff.
A funeral service will be held at Shiloh Baptist Church in the old church building at 2:00pm on Friday, February 20, 2026. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00pm, just prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
